Cybrothel: Where Sex, Tech and Fantasies Collide

Interview and photography by Nais Madec

Interviewer (Q): First off, can you explain what the cybrothel is?

Philip (A): “The Cybrothel is the first immersive doll brothel in the world, where humans interact with machines. We think of ourselves as a sex tech lab—a sort of adult playground exploring the spaces between humans and machines.

We’ve got various dolls and toys, each with its own character and biography. Our dolls are extra special because they’re voiced by actors, so you can actually have a conversation with them. We’re making the first steps toward a future where we’ll have sex with robots.”

Q: How do you pick the doll designs—like, do you go for certain body types, big boobs, six-pack abs?

A: “We don’t design our own dolls. They’re very heteronormative because that’s what the market currently offers—think of what old white men believe women look like. Obviously that’s not what all women look like. Eventually, I want more fantasy characters—aliens, mermaids, all that. We have bills to pay, so we keep some mainstream looks for now, but more variety is coming.”

Q: How does the cybrothel differ from a traditional brothel? Is there a deeper metaphor about modern sexuality here?

A: “I come from a conservative, patriarchal Christian background in Austria, where sex is usually hidden. That leads to frustration—say, a man wants a different experience, so he sneaks off to a normal brothel. With the Cybrothel, the lines are much clearer. You book a session online; it’s shiny, futuristic, and not shady.

We’re open about kinks and fantasies, and we welcome all genders. It’s sexual liberation without the guilt trip.”

Q: So how does integrating AI and advanced tech make the experience different?

(A): “We call ourselves a ‘sex tech lab’ because we’re actively exploring how AI influences human sexuality. History shows new technologies always impact our sex lives—like the internet, where a big chunk of traffic is porn. The same will happen with AI and robots. We should start an open dialogue now about how we want to use these technologies in a healthy way.”

Q: Do you see ai-driven dolls taking over sex work? What might that do to our perception of intimacy and labor?

A: “It won’t replace traditional sex work. Human-to-human services will always exist. This is more like a new category that’s evolving. Many clients who come here are in relationships, and their partners don’t mind because they see the doll as just a life-sized sex toy. It’s not necessarily ‘cheating.’ Couples even come together, calling it a ‘threesome lite.’ So I don’t think this replaces anything; it just adds new options.”

Q: There’s only one male doll here. Will there be more for female customers?

A: “Yes! I’m ordering two more guys this year. We’ve tried services specifically for women, but there aren’t many female visitors yet. Also, the male dolls aren’t as advanced—they’re pretty passive. I hope future tech will let them move and participate more. But right now, it’s early days.”

Q: Does the cybrothel redefine power dynamics in intimate spaces?

(A): “If you book a basic session—just you and a doll—it’s essentially a toy for self-pleasure. But if you include one of our voice actresses (we call them ‘voice queens’), we can add an educational component. Many of them are sex coaches who can guide guests to learn things they can apply in real life. AI might also help us explore and reconnect, rather than just creating the ‘perfect partner.’ It’s about self-discovery.”

Q: Why all the neon and bold colors? It’s nothing like the usual red-Velvet brothel vibe.

(A): “I’m queer, and I love diversity. We use what’s known as ‘bisexual lighting’—pink and blue. I wanted a futuristic, inclusive look. This started as an art project, with actress ‘dolls’ and elaborate role-plays, and that creative element still shines through. I’m also a filmmaker, so transparency and inclusivity are important to me.”

Q: So is this all about a modern approach to hedonism?

(A): “I like to think so, yes! It’s definitely a unique spin on pleasure. And in the future, people will have more options—whether it’s a family life, flying solo, or living with a robot that cleans dishes and warms the bed. It’s all about exploring possibilities.”

Q: Where do you see cybrothel fitting into our cultural shift in how we view pleasure and sexuality?

(A): “It’s part of the broader shift toward more diverse expressions of sexuality. It offers a glimpse into what’s possible with emerging tech. Anyone with an open mind can come and experiment—like a grown-up playground with VR, role-play, and fancy toys. It’s about imagining and shaping the future of sex, together.”
