Tompop and his moving art.
What’s your favourite part of the creative process?
It has to be those magical spark moments that happen here and there. The bit that lines everything else up. It’s almost like catching an idea that’s floating around your head and making it tangible.
“I’ve always struggled to define myself as one type of creative, I feel equally at home making music as I do creating visual art.“
I guess I try to exist between things that have come before. I’m inspired by a myriad of things, including the Bauhaus school, 60’s psychedelia and op-art, 70’s corporate branding, Victorian mosaic and tile design, sci-fi design and illustration. Working in motion design gives me the opportunity to mesmerise with just a few frames of unique action. Each view takes on a new meaning.
Any downside to being an artist – apart from cleaning your tools?
And a little bit about yourself – what’s your story?
Originally from Manchester, I now live in Sunderland, North East England. I’m a graphic designer by trade, but I did my degree in TV and radio production, so I’ve got a wide skillset and I’m interested in all manner of creative endeavour. I’ve always struggled to define myself as one type of creative, I feel equally at home making music as I do creating visual art.
