Imogen is her name.
Your work is extremely unique – tell us about your artistic style.
I only got back into painting at the beginning of this year and was inspired by artists I saw online painting colourful portraits. I started experimenting with watercolours in my tiny sketchbook and then one day had the idea to combine my watercolour paintings with my love of continuous line drawings and with that, my art style was born! I began experimenting with different colour combinations, initially with no intention of posting my work anywhere online.
“As much as I love what I do, I often feel limited by my surroundings”
What’s your favourite part of the creative process?
My favourite part is once I have the idea in my head sketched out and I’m finally ready to put paintbrush to paper!
Any downside to being an artist – apart from cleaning your tools?
As much as I love what I do, I often feel limited by my surroundings. I wish I had the space to create bigger paintings and the equipment to take better photos of my work and the means to make professional art prints. I’ll get there one day though!
And a little bit about yourself – what’s your story?
I’m a 22 year old university student in my final year of a modern languages degree. I’ve always been creative, but wasn’t confident enough in my abilities to go to art school, so instead I chose to study foreign languages and keep art as a hobby. I was never very social, so I spent my evenings and weekends working on creative projects, although I never showed them to anyone.
This all changed earlier this year when my partner at the time asked to see some of the paintings I had been doing of the female body and she encouraged me to start posting my paintings online. I wasn’t particularly serious about it at first, but after becoming ill with ME/CFS, and consequently becoming housebound, I dedicated all my time and very limited energy to painting and sharing my work.
Shoutout to your top source of inspiration? Person, book, snack… go wild.
I wouldn’t say I have one main source of inspiration, but I suppose shoutout to all the amazingly talented artists on instagram sharing their work!
