Creatures from the Hole is a Poetry and Film Collective which just completed a European tour with their militant Performance Wing The Daughters of Shit, traveling overland from Norway East to Lisbon, West to Istanbul, North to the Isle of Skye making interventions into the End of the World. The group is still groundless or underground or para-terrestrial or something.
Can you tell us about the inspiration behind the names “Enormous Face”, “Human Juices”, and “Creatures From The Hole”?
Enormousface was originally a joke about artists’ egos, facing facebook and the “self” – this sort of, “look at my huge facialized personality! it’s me! Me!” meets Absurd Monolithic Kharmsian Russian Avant Garde Big Brother as a generic art star. The triple irony is that now there is this giant-headed voluptuous pink monstrosity that takes over my body from time to time, I’ve been periodically afflicted by bacterial infections IN my face; and lastly that my “self”-deprecating anti-social[media] joke caught on so well that sometimes people see me on the street and say hey, enormousface!
The name “humanjuices” originated from an extremely offensive and explicit exchange of words with a colleague. We ended up having a huge falling out- no juices involved. Actually, I was dreaming I was shopping for my favorite kind of juice… pinapple. Looking around in the store, I couldn’t really make out the words of the kind of juice… squinting and straining my little eyes all I could find was HUMAN-JUICE. Repulsive! *ERROR: There is no origin of humanjuices. It doesn’t exist.
Creatures From the Hole and the Daughters of Shit was a misunderstanding of another name. I mean it sprouted ex-nihilo fully formed from the placental forehead of Zoroaster.
MONCHICHI, THE TWINGO, PUPPETS & HILMINS SINGING IN CHORAL UNISON: “What about our names? Are we less important because we’re from a different gene pool?”

How would you describe your artistic style and what mediums do you typically work with?
Our style you might say is Neo garbage- trash, with taste. We collect garbage and frequent flea markets. We work in different mediums, film, performance, poems, yelling, We sometimes do strange performances, make objects….
[A STRANGE SQUEAKING SOUND FILLS THE MONITORS, THE VOICE OF “god” BURBLES OUT:] “Cthonic Porn Turd? F-List Savant-Garde Glitching? Anti-Human Bungholes of Otherness? Someone said ‘cute apocalyptica’ or ‘funny abject horror kitsch’. ‘Total Punk’.
[WITHERING/PATHOS:] I do freaky object puppet shows made from trash and dead things, organize garbage festivals and do Not-Happenings and street interventions into collapsing ecocidal capitalism. But i also like to draw. And make clothes. Almost entirely with refuse and cast off things though. Just break garbage.
Can you talk about any specific pieces or projects that hold a special significance to you?
We’re all definitely excited about the European Review/Doggerel Book coming together, and performances at Kopi and Disgraca and ACAB Bookstore and the Cabaret Voltaire were really cool, but Many of the Tools we’ve created on tour are Deep Loaded too: The Post-Newtonian App-Holes, our Water Collection, the Pen With Every Feather, Monchichi’s Garden of Sexually Transmitted Infections, the Alphabet of Holes, our Tiny Theatre… how long should we go on for here?

FRIEND1: Every project has a significant hole in my heart, but Smutny Den is particularly charged. The film is set in a decaying sunflower field in autumn. After completing the first stage of our journey to Istanbul, we only had two days to drive to Berlin for our first exhibition. Exhausted, stressed, and confused, we were having some issues. One of our collective members was nearing a breaking point, so we stopped to film in a field. It was going well until it wasn’t, and the collective really almost split up. Possibly the most dramatic and emotional point in the journey led to one of our most striking features.
DISEMBODIED TELEPATHIC VOICE [decoded through layers of cyphers and signifiers]: When the Himlin Twins peed in cyllindrical phone booths of Zurich robbed the bank in Lisbon, then gave birth in the Vatican and got jumped and interrogated by the Swiss Guard, those were highlight moments for us.
PINK THING: The Demonic Porn Planet, XOS, and its attendant comic books, puppet shows, and aeturnal warp hole dimensions will always be special to me. I liked roaming around Monaco in the Middle of the night[ed note: Midnight in Monaco, 2022], and bobbing around the Hagia Sofia too…. WHAT AM I DOING with my life?
ABJECT PUPPETS: We loved the tour of tiny countries. We fit right in. Such an honor to do/be a puppet show for the Captain Regent of San Marino.
MONCHICHI: I’m excited about the Secret Mission of the Creatures from the Hole. But I can’t say much more about that here.
TWINGO: I was always proud of the cthonic dashboard nativity scenes and poems they covered me in.
How do you see your work evolving or changing in the future?
[OBLIQUE:] The work is heavily invested in the changing landscape- as the natural world continues to disappear, places once inhabited/exploited/mined/farmed/used become deserted, we will be there – filming and writing. In the future, we will be making longer productions, but it will still be a reflection of the environment. We’ll make better costumes, more refined but less complex. Maybe add some more text and try breaking with non-narrative, more experiments with Collective Directorship.
[OBTUSE:] There will be huge formless drab and outrageously offensive non-representational puppets made from garbage heaving and slurping and dancing themselves to pieces in every stadium of every city across the world, nay floating in the seething heavens above every UNESCO site, screaming out illegible messages of alterity and despair that a few passersby will think for a moment they comprehend, and then promptly forget. Great airborne metropolises will fill the ocean peopled by hordes of melted nonhuman subject/objects who will work together to transcend the laws of thermodynamics and forge a completely new kind of post-spiritual maths: forget Love, Art, Death, Time and Space… peanuts! Where we are going is so far beyond all of that as to make the Big Bang look like a Quantum Blip!
Can you tell us about your tour and any events that you’re excited about?
We are on a kind of extended/eternal World Tour, of which Europe is the first or second stop, so let’s start with that. There’s lots of prongs to this Hydra:
Touring Europe as an anti-human/ist collective was great. We didn’t make it to the Baltic, much of the east, about half of Balkan, or most of the islands, but went almost everywhere else making films, poems, and interventions in the majority of the West and South. We flew into Oslo from NYC an hitchhiked up and down Scandinavia to Berlin where we bought a little Twingo from a Chechen guy and drove to Lisbon, stopping at squats, ruins, bullshit art fairs, tourist attractions and ancient monuments along the way and collecting new collective members and rusting traces of the horrifying genocide human being are perpetrating on this dying earth, and didn’t even have any police problems at all until Spain. We mostly just bivouacked sleeping outside in fields under the stars.
Our fantastic 1998 Renault Twingo broke down the first time outside of Barcelona, and we had only been standing on the side of the highway with our huge “HELP/AYUDA” sign for five minutes when this wonderful Moroccan guy pulled over and took us to his cousin, who completely rebuilt our engine at cost over five days while we lived together in his garage. A similar thing happened in Turkey.
We were driving through France and saw this old fallen down dealership that looked just like the Oracle of Delphi, so we jumped out, tossed our costumes over the fence, covered ourselves in trash, and filmed playing in the rubbish until the cops showed up to kick us out. This happened a lot.

ABJECT PUPPETS: We were born from the leftovers and refuse of garbage heaps and flea markets all over Europe, but some of our favorite cousins joined us in the micronations. National Andorra day was a blast.
TWINGO: In Rome, we lived for days on a tiny roundabout in San Lorenzo with three trees like a desert island in the middle of a huge traffic circle. We did some of our best work at Tito’s old Spomeniks in the Balkans, and then drove 16 hours to Athens.
GOATHEADED SEXGOD: When we got back to Berlin from Istanbul (a kind of a breakneck return trip) we built the Forest of Garbage in this wonderful little gallery there that still can’t decide on its name and installed the “trees” we’ve made all over the neighborhood.
ENORMOUSFACE: Playing Fierce Festival in Birmingham was Amazing (it’s really a fantastic kind of Eco-Queer festival), and the Garbage Fests we organized under bridges in Bristol went just swimmingly with carnival games like Pin The Garbage on the Garbage and the Trash Toss, Trashion Shows, and the creation and destruction of huge monumental garbage sculpture parks.
MONCHICHITI: We even ended up visiting most of the members’ Ancestral Lands in Northern Norway and Wales. And in Istanbul I gave birth to a little clone of myself!
One of our very favorite things though has been writing poems with people, passing sheets around the ADM afterparty or the Gugar in Malta — now we’re proud to say we have wild ravening poems in almost thirty languages. We could go on about this for a while, but if you’re interested…maybe get our book.
In the future, they will be finishing up some underground projects in NYC, and then going on to tour the other continents…
Japan, Kenya, Georgia, Peru… connect them with your weirdos across the world, they’re coming!
