Styria – Artist-in-Residence

The Regional Government of Styria is offering scholarships for young emerging artists and art theorists for the year 2024. These scholarships are open to international applicants from all artistic fields who wish to connect with the creative scene in Graz, Styria.

The scholarship includes a monthly payment of EUR 1.100 and accommodation in the center of Graz. Scholars will stay at the baroque Priesterseminar, which offers a room with a private bath and a shared kitchen. However, it is not possible to be accompanied by others or pets during the residency. Scholars are expected to demonstrate courtesy, respect, and good communication during their stay.

The cultural initiatives in Graz will take care of networking and support for the scholars, providing a working space and arranging presentations of selected works or artist-talks. The minimum stay is two months, but the actual duration depends on the artistic intention and the jury’s decision.

Submission Process:

Applicants need to submit a printed application (max. 20 pages) that includes a short CV, desired duration of stay, and a description of the artistic/art theoretical working plan. Examples of previous works should be provided, but not original pieces. The application should be sent by post and must be complete for consideration by the jury.

The submission deadline is August 7, 2023 (date of postmark). Applicants will be notified in writing of the jury’s decision. It is important to consider climate-friendly travel when planning for the scholarship. Please use the specified address for submitting the application in fourfold drawing up.
