Creation and dissemination residency for visual artists in a local art center
January – June 2023
Initiated and carried by Chantier Public, an artistic project that sets in motion the relationship between art and the city, questions the place of the artist and the inhabitants. EXO is a residency for two young visual artists.
The residence focuses on practices related to the territory and its inhabitants. Participatory and inclusive artistic approaches, experimentation with art produced jointly are at the heart of this, as they have been at the heart of the local art center, Chantier Public since its creation.
A jury of professionals made up of members of the structure selects each year a duo of visual artists, graduates for at least 1 year, and gives them the means, for a period of six months, to devote themselves to their artistic practice and to disseminate their works and reflections within a local art centre. They, they, they develop and deepen their research work, produce works, artistic and cultural interactions and constitute a professional network. EXO offers each of them individualized support, a work and dissemination space, a grant, a production budget and privileged meetings with young artists in residence in the territory and professionals. those of contemporary art.

Modalities and objectives
Exo revolves around the reception of a duo of visual artists or not, the production of works and processes, the experimentation of professional and interpersonal practices and situations, the acquisition and use knowledge and basic tools around the legal, administrative, accounting and social fundamentals necessary for the activity of plastic artist, knowledge and integration of a professional environment and the development of a network at the local and regional scale.
Residence grant: 6000 euros (3000€ per person)
Production costs: 2000 euros
Public presentation rights for 2 exhibitions: 1500€ (750€ per person)
Possibility of implementing an action of artistic education and culture in the New Aquitaine Region: €2,000
Residence conditions
• Individualized support in the development of work
• Critical contribution by professionals: artists, theoreticians, structure managers, critics, exhibition curators, gallery owners, etc.The artists undertake to exchange with the team of the local art center and the invited professionals on their projects and the development of their practice;
• Proposals for various professional experiences: exhibition set-up, artistic and cultural education action, workshop;
• Theoretical and practical support time;
Duration
From 09 January 2023 to 02 July 2023
The artists undertake to settle in Poitiers for the entire residency period, ie 6 months.
Rhythm
Two compulsory exposure times are expected in the middle and at the end of the residency. They can be increased by meeting and/or workshop time.
An artistic and cultural education action will be implemented in co-construction with Chantier Public and an external structure within the Vienne department.
Venue
Chantier Public is an associative project based in the Montbernage district of Poitiers, between the episcopal district classified by UNESCO and the Couronneries district, categorized as a Priority Urban Zone, under a road bridge. Poitiers is a university town with a population of 30,000 students, i.e. one third of the inhabitants. With a rich and dense associative and cultural fabric, consisting of a national scene, 2 arts and essays cinemas, 2 smac, 1 art center of national interest, a museum, a space for culture and scientific and various mediation associations.
Composition of the application file
EXO is open to emerging visual artists, all techniques combined, without geographical or age limit.
1/ PortfolioThe videos must be visible on the Internet via Vimeo or another platform.
2/ Artistic Curriculum Vitae of the two candidates
3/ Note of intent of 3 pages maximum including the lines of research and work that the duo wishes to develop during their time in residence and for the implementation of an artistic and cultural education project. These proposals are not intended to be final and may change during the course.
